The association of manufacturers VERE e.V. supports the collection of used mobile phones of the Bavarian Ministry of Environment

The VERE Association and the company take-e-way GmbH support the collection of mobile phones...

Collection of used mobile phones in Bavaria in cooperation with the StMUG and Eficom
The VERE Association and the company take-e-way GmbH support the collection of mobile phones "Disposing of mobile phones in a clever way" which is performed under the auspices of the Bavarian States Ministery for Environment and Health (StMUG) together with the project association Eficom with about 7’000 collection points in government agencies, schools, district offices, municipalities, associations, churches and companies of the republic of Bavaria.
The collection is starting after today's press conference of the STMUG at the grammer school Oskar-von-Miller in Munich Schwabing; at the occasion of this press conference the State Minister Dr. Marcel Huber presents the overall concept of the collection of used mobile phones.
The collection "Disposing of mobile phones in a clever way" is supposed to be the largest collection of mobile phones in Germany.
Urban-Mining: What is feasible, what will be reasonably feasible and what are illusions?
This is the central question for Jochen Stepp, manager of the VERE Association who supports the collection together with the take-back system "take-e-way" which was conceived for small and medium-sized companies: "The initiative of the Bavarian government is very important for us, since only this way it is possible to collect reliable data about the gathering and evaluation potential as well as about the accruing cost of such a collection activity. In order to implement the idea that a used mobile phone may deliver a part of the raw material for a new device, mainly the collected findings in practice are important. "Therefore, VERE and take-e-way encourage the collection without any commercial interests", says Jochen Stepp today in Munich.
It is necessary to avoid misuse of the data saved on the mobile phones
For Oliver Friedrichs, manager of the take-e-way GmbH, it is particularly important to reassure the owners of used mobile phones that the information saved on the mobile phones won't be misused.
"This is the real reason why owners of mobile phones do not want to give away their used devices. We would like to reassure the citizens by a guaranteed data destruction." says Oliver Friedrichs.
Two important collection actions of electrical devices undertaken by VERE and take-e-way
The collection of used mobile phones "Disposing of mobile phones in a clever way" in Bavaria is the second comprehensive collection activity for the VERE Association and take-e-way after implementing the voluntary take-back system for small electrical applicances in Hamburg, the European green capital in 2011.
With the mutual commitment VERE and take-e-way would like to make the citizens aware of the dealing with used devices; otherwise the valuable components would get forever lost by disposing them with the residual waste.
VERE and take-e-way will be glad to support further projects of this kind all over Germany.

Intersolar Europe 2012 – take-e-way and VERE e.V. advise PV manufacturers on the WEEE and the ElektroG

When implementing the WEEE directive it is important to reduce the administrative burden and to...

Effects of the WEEE Recast on PV manufacturers and importers
As soon as the revised directive of the European Parliament and of the council on waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE directive) will be binding for all manufacturers and importers of solar and PV modules, the producers will need help in particular when implementing the German version of the WEEE directive, the Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG).
After the implementation of the “WEEE2” in the countries of the European Union, the requirements and obligations are already applicable before selling solar and PV modules and not only when recycling them after many years of operation. In particular in Germany PV manufacturers and importers have to prove a guaranty that they are protected from insolvency for the advised sales volume and have to handle comprehensive reporting and registration obligations. Additionally, it is necessary to provide an extensive waste disposal network in order to be able to process possible recycling requirements in a timely and qualitative manner complying with the law.

take-e-way as problem-solver
With its two approved manufacturer's warranty systems take-e-way is the full service provider and one of the most important suppliers on the German markets with a share of 36 percent of all manufacturers registered in the field B2C according to the Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG).
Furthermore, take-e-way has experience from several thousands of successfully performed registration processes for companies in 30 countries all over the world.
take-e-way processes provision and disposal orders on behalf of its more than 2'500 connected customers every day. To do so, take-e-way maintains a nationwide network of certified treatment plants which do not shy efficient handling of worn out PV modules.

WEEE consulting at the Intersolar Europe 2012 (Booth A5.335)
take-e-way GmbH and the Association for the Return and Recycling of electric and electronic Devices (VERE e.V.) will be glad to advise all manufacturers, distributors and importers of solar and PV modules and will respond all questions regarding future obligations according to the Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG) at the Intersolar 2012, Germany's most important trade fair for solar technique at booth A5.335 from June 13th to 15th, 2012. The main focus of the trade fair presentation of take-e-way and VERE at the Intersolar are:
1) Implementation of the WEEE directive and in the Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG): Obligations of manufacturers and importers of solar and PV modules as soon as the WEEE directives resp. the Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG) will be binding for them.
2) WEEE amendment: Most important modifications of the WEEE directive particularly with regard to photovoltaic modules.
3) Solutions for the PV industry: Recommended course of action for the processing of solar and PV modules within the established logistics and recycling infrastructure in Europe.
4) Recycling of solar and PV waste: All about professional recycling of solar and PV modules in the frame of the current technical possibilities. take-e-way and VERE will inform you in how far the existing processing plants are adapted to the new material flow of “photovoltaic modules”.
5) The German WEEE implementation – 7 years of Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG): Presentation of the optimum solution with regard to costs, administrative efforts, logistics and recycling of solar and PV modules using the example of the German Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG).
WEEE directive does not require a proper take back system of PV and solar module manufacturers
Oliver Friedrichs, manager of the take-e-way GmbH, explained today at Hamburg: “The recycling and taking back of PV and solar modules can be handled via established logistics and recycling systems in Europe. An implementation into the Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG) offers the option of cost-efficient processing of the obligations to the manufacturers. However, it is necessary to make sure that the worn out modules are undamaged as far as possible when they are taken back. To do so, it is necessary to check if it is possible to arrange for a proper collection group for PV modules at the transfer points. For instance, gathering and transportation can be performed on stake pallets.“
“When implementing the WEEE directive it is important to reduce the administrative burden and to guaranty a rapid registration of the manufacturers as a basis of legal sales and the participation in manufacturer warranty and recycling systems according to performance. To do so, take-e-way provides smart problem solutions for small and large companies.“, explained Friedrichs further on.
