Back for the Future

VERE transferred the revenues from the collection of mobile phones amounting to € 5,618.73 to the Water Foundation. Additionally, VERE e.V. donated € 1,120.00 to the foundation.

The VERE Association performed a redemption and recycling campaign of used mobile phones in German schools in the frame of the "Raw material expedition" under the patronage of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and in cooperation with the renowned telephone companies, the Institute for Environmental Communication of the Leuphana University, the Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies e.V. as well as the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment, Energy GmbH.

The intent and purpose was to develop the understanding of pupils with scientific support that important raw materials for devices of the future may be extracted from used mobile phones.

The net revenues gained from the reuse, processing or recycling of used devices shall benefit the Water Foundation since it also contributes to maintaining a valuable resource: water.

Therefore VERE transferred the revenues from the collection of mobile phones amounting to € 5,618.73 to the Water Foundation by order of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

Additionally, VERE e.V. donated € 1,120.00 to the foundation.

Only by means of such initiatives it is possible to make young people aware of the necessity to reuse existing raw materials in a proper way or to use raw materials carefully.

Campaigns of this kind might be a pioneer in order that we will produce products of the future in an environmentally-friendly and resource-saving way.

"The raw material expedition – Find out what a/your handy is made up of!" is a campaign of the science year 2012 – Future project Earth.
