Drives for garage and industry doors are attributable to the category 6 of the ElektroG

Drives for garage or industry doors are assigned to category 6 "Electric and electronic tools (except for stationary industrial large tools)" in the sense of the Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG).

The evaluation of the application range for drives for garage or industry doors is a difficult case. They are assigned to category 6 of electrical and electronic devices "Electric and electronic tools (except for stationary industrial large tools)" in the sense of the Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG/WEEE).

At this, it is decisive that drives for doors fulfill an independent, intended function for manufacturers, also if they only fulfill the function, i.e. the movements of the doors, after installation/attachment or others to a door. This evaluation does not change even by the fact that the users do not obligatorily commission the door drives themselves. Instead, it would be sufficient if the device is installed by a specialist and handed over to the user ready-for-operation. At last, a door drive is not a fixed industrial large tool since it is neither used for industrial purposes nor continuously fixed.
