The new EU Packaging Regulation (PPWR) aims to reduce packaging, support recycling and create common EU rules. Companies generally support these goals, but implementation is a concern. Many rules are still unclear, making it difficult for companies to plan investments and sometimes causing delays.
Additional challenges arise from extensive documentation requirements
Companies must document packaging materials and recycled content, creating extra work, especially for small businesses. The IHK (Chamber of Industry and Commerce) supports stronger environmental rules but warns against too much bureaucracy and unclear rules. It calls for simpler EU-wide rules, easier reporting and fewer requirements for small businesses. The goal is to balance environmental protection with practical implementation.
