#LithiumUnites against fire risks

The German recycling infrastructure is being increasingly thinned out, companies are having to close and jobs are being lost, jeopardising the goal of a sustainable circular economy for raw materials. Under the motto #LithiumUnites, the campaign of the sellers and producers organised in the VERE Association brings together all those involved to actively tackle the problem. Lithium batteries are the driving force behind an energy-driven, cordless society. However, responsible handling of this technology requires the co-operation of all parties involved: producers, sellers, consumers, logistics companies and disposal companies. The latter in particular are increasingly the victims of incorrect disposal, which leads to uncontrolled energy release and, in the worst case, to fires in disposal vehicles and facilities.

The consequences of these fires are serious: the German recycling infrastructure is being increasingly thinned out, businesses are having to close and jobs are being lost, jeopardising the goal of a sustainable circular economy for raw materials.

Under the slogan #LithiumUnites, the campaign brings together all those involved to actively tackle the problem. The VERE Association is providing 20,000 euros from its own funds and is calling for further support. The aim is to produce a simple and innovative aid package and distribute it to sellers, producers and collection centres.

This package is intended to provide practical support for the safe disposal of old electrical appliances with lithium batteries and to solve the problem constructively and unbureaucratically. The support package includes information texts, a poster display, information inserts for product packaging as well as information stickers for battery compartments of electrical appliances and masking tape for the terminals of lithium batteries. Support #LithiumUnites!
