According to the European Commission, packaging made before 12 August 2026 but not yet placed on the market by that date does not need to be changed. Destruction, reworking or relabelling is not required. The rules under Article 15 (5) and (6) of the PPWR, including clear labelling and the manufacturer’s name and address, can be provided in accompanying documents, such as a delivery note. This also applies to reusable packaging that was already placed on the market.
For packaging made after 12 August 2026, accompanying documents are generally not enough. The required identification and the manufacturer’s name and address must normally be shown directly on the packaging. An accompanying document may only be used if the information cannot be placed directly on the packaging.
